Salam alaikum, readers!
I’m traveling this week, and so I didn’t have any time to put together my usual Friday Links.
I thought I would share one link with you, however. I spoke with Voice of America about stereotypes of Muslim women in Western media. I hope you enjoy it!
Since this month was International Women’s Day, I wanted to check in with everyone.
What did you do for International Women’s Day? Did you participate in local or international events?

I wore the hijab all day, as a part of an event in Denmark, to support women’s free right to wear – or not to wear, the hijab.
Good article, but dammit why do they always have to use “veil” or “unveil” in titles of articles about Muslim women?
Hereby I want to inform you, that the audiovisual recording of
the lecture of Mrs. Arshi Saleem Hashmi (Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad/National Defense University Islamabad-Pakistan) in Vienna “Pakistan in crisis” is now online on the site etalks.tv under this link:
http://etalks.tv/blog/2010/03/09/arshi-saleem-hashmi-we-dont-want-to-lose-our-country/
The audiovisual recording has been contributed by the U.S. Embassy Vienna/Austria, Women without Borders and etalks.tv
You can use the link on your own website too, if you wish to add it to your media section.
@ musicalchef: I KNOW. I thought the same thing when I saw the title.
Westerners (defined as those who define Muslim as “other”) have a gigantic veil obsession. I can only wonder that it says more about something strange going on deep in their psyches than it does about us.
