A number of MMW writers are stepping back over the next few months, so we’re currently looking for a few more people to add to the team. Although the position is unpaid, being a MMW contributor is a great way to gain writing experience, and to connect to an awesome community of Muslim women (if we may say so ourselves!)
We’re looking especially for contributors who might have perspectives that aren’t already reflected among MMW’s writers. So if you come from a part of the world or a particular ethnic/cultural group that’s un- or underrepresented at MMW, or from a particular religious approach that we’re not covering sufficiently, or if you have other perspectives and experiences to add to the team, we would love to hear from you. The only things we require in terms of background and outlook are that you identify as a Muslim woman and that you agree with MMW’s overall mission (described here). Previous writing experience (such as blogging or journalism) is helpful but not a requirement.
If you’re interested in being considered for a position as MMW writer, please email me at editor@muslimahmediawatch.org, and provide at least two writing samples. Tell me a bit about yourself, and include answers to the following questions:
What languages do you speak/read/understand?
What is your educational/work/volunteer background? Do you have previous writing experience?
Where do you live?
Which topics do you feel most comfortable writing about, and which topics are most interesting to you?
How often would you be able to contribute to MMW (weekly, biweekly, monthly)?
What unique perspectives and experiences do you bring to MMW?
Is there anything else that MMW should know about you when considering you as a writer?
Please send this information by February 1. Once we’ve looked through the submissions, we’ll start scheduling trial guest posts by applicants who look like they might be a good fit.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
